Why Men's Health Matters
Men's mental health is often overlooked, with statistics showing alarmingly higher rates of suicide and untreated conditions amongst men in the UK. We're here to change that narrative by offering accessible resources and fostering open, honest conversations.
Every day, three-quarters of all suicides in the UK are committed by men, yet many struggle in silence. Our community-driven initiatives foster resilience, education, and meaningful connection to break this devastating cycle.
Phi-Iota Galleon’s Mental Health Dinner Talk: An inspiring evening where Afro-Caribbean men came together to share stories, break the stigma, and promote open conversations about mental health. Through connection, culture, and community, the event encouraged honesty, healing, and hope.
Discussions focused on breaking cultural barriers, understanding the impact of societal expectations, and exploring healthy coping strategies for stress, anxiety, and depression. Mental health professionals and community advocates provided valuable insights on recognizing symptoms, accessing local support services, and promoting early intervention. The dinner setting created a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, allowing participants to connect personally and build a sense of community. Feedback from attendees reflected an increased awareness of mental health challenges and a renewed commitment to supporting one another.

The Phi-Iota Galleon Community Interest Company, in partnership with the Omega Galleon Foundation, hosted a knife violence awareness event on Barking Street, London. The event focused on the impact of knife violence on men's mental health, highlighting how fear leads some to carry knives, increasing anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Through speeches and community engagement around Barking Station, the initiative raised awareness of the wider social and mental health effects of knife violence while strengthening community connections.
